A metaphor for my life.

At the station, when the train pulls in and hoards of people alight, there are others moving against the flow, headed for the train which has just emptied. Once the realisation is upon them that the train is there, ready to board and there are mere seconds between them and the warmth of the train carriage, there become two types of people.

There are the people who race for the doors. They see the opening and they blank out the obstacles and they say to themselves, “I’m going to make it.” It doesn’t matter how many people they trample or how they stumble. They want to get there, and they will.

Then there are the people who see the doors open, they consider the obstacles, the distance ahead seems tremendous, and as the doors close in front of them, they shrug and they wait for the next one. I am this person.
